WHAT IS THAI YOGA THERAPY?

Kam Thye Chow (Master Thai Yoga Practitioner) calls it “a dynamic therapy for physical well-being and spiritual energy.”

Thai Yoga Therapy is an ancient healing art dating back to 500 BCE.  Performed in the Buddhist temples of Thailand, the technique has its roots in India, emerging from the healing sciences of yoga and Ayurveda.  Stretching the entire body through rhythmic, meditative postures, it is a  dynamic and rejuvenative combination of yoga, acupressure, reflexogy, and energy work.  It is relaxing and energizing.  Again, Kam Thye Chow:

In receiving Thai Yoga Massage one is also receiving the benefits of the practice of yoga.  This technique has been described as assisted Hatha Yoga.  A Thai Yoga Massage also incorporates martial arts moves, rhythmic motion, palming and thumbing along energy lines, gentle stretching, and breathwork, creating a slow, flowing “dance” around and with the recipient’s body….*

DOES THIS TECHNIQUE WORK WITH ‘PRANA’ OR ‘VITAL ENERGY’?
Absolutely.  Like yoga, QiGong, Shiatsu Massage, and many other forms of energy work, Thai Yoga works on the level of prana, or vital energy.  The technique is specifically designed to work on “sen lines,” which are the pathways, or meridians, on which vital energy flows.  In addition, the technique works on “marma points,” which are highly charged centers where concentrated energy might  pool, or accumulate.  According to Thai Yoga Therapy, sickness, illness, etc., is  related to blockages or imbalances in these energetic centers.   The palming and thumbing techniques of Thai Yoga Therapy restores balance and free flow of energy in the body, thus re-establishing strength, vitality and well being.
