Wah!   has a spent a lifetime immersed in music, studying in the US, India and Africa.   She accompanied the Arthur Hall Dance Ensemble to Ghana and Nigeria (1978), lived in a shaman temple in Africa (1978), composed and danced professionally for the Angela Caponigro Dance Ensemble in NYC (1983-1989), and made various trips to in India (1989-1992).  Her music reflects her travel and spiritual experiences from many parts of the world and her excursions along the spiritual path.   Her band has opened for Courtney Love; she toured with Krishna Das for 3 years.  Her CDs include Jai Jai Jai, Opium, Savasana, Hidden in the Name and CD Krishna.

Nicolai Bachman began learning Sanskrit in 1992 while studying under Dr. Vasant Lad at the Ayurvedic Institute in Albuquerque, New Mexico. That summer he completed a 6-week Sanskrit intensive given by Vyaas Houston at the American Sanskrit Institute in Warwick, New York. From there he traveled to India for over a year, studying with Dr. Vagish Shastri, director of the Sampurnand Sanskrit University in Varanasi. Upon returning he became Vyaas's personal assistant for 1 year, helping run ASI and teaching many Sanskrit classes. From there he moved to Santa Fe and completed his M.A. in Eastern Philosophy at St. John's College in 1996. In Santa Fe he continues his study and practice via classes and association with David Frawley (American Institute of Vedic Studies), Tias Little (Yoga Source of Santa Fe) and Sonia Nelson / T.K.V Desikachar (Vedic Chant Center).  Nicolai holds classes in Santa Fe at Yoga Source and at the Vedic Chant Center. He also teaches around the country at conferences and yoga studios.

Part 1 with Nicolai Bachman (About 11 Hours in 3 days) - An Organic Approach to Traditional Indian Chanting

Monday 7/26 - Wednesday 7/28 1:55pm - 5:30pm

By diving deeply into the heart of sacred sound we can fully experience the vibration of ancient India. With the simple tools of Sanskrit phonetics and rhythm we will tap into that energy. Chanting is infused with the heat of tapas, the curiosity and learning of svadhyaya and the unconditional devotion of ishvarapranidhana. We will learn many different styles of chanting including Vedic, Bija, Shloka and Stotra leading into two days of devotional kirtan chanting with Wah! There will also be a section on sutra study and chanting.

WAH! embodies a playful and experiential approach to chanting.  Repetition of simple mantras creates a joyful mood and the chanting is meant to be inclusive and fun.  Through stories and group energy, the disciplines of faith are shared as a natural progression towards bliss. 


Wah! shares her practices of kundalini-based yoga, energetic clearing, chanting, and meditation to connect with spirit in daily life, offering music, stories of inspiration, and practices and experiences on the spiritual path.
