TRANSPORTATION, ACCOMMODATIONS, ARRIVAL & DEPARTURE

When do classes and accommodations begin and end?

Classes begin at 8am on the 21st and conclude at 6pm on the 26th.  Accommodations begin on the afternoon of the 20th; Check out is the afternoon of the 26th.

How far is SEATAC airport?

SEATAC airport is about 1 hour from The Evergreen State College (TESC)  in Olympia Washington.  There are several shuttle services with direct service to TESC.  We are currently negotiating a discounted fare and regularly scheduled pick ups for Sunday, July 20th and Saturday, July 26th.  We will update all registered participants with complete information regarding ground transportation to and from SEATAC closer to the date of the event. 

How do I receive airline discounts with United Airlines?

YFLP is pleased to announce that United Airlines is offering discounts on applicable domestic and international fares when booked by you or your travel agent with United's Meeting Desk at 1-800-521-4041 and reference Meeting ID Number 517BL. Dedicated reservationists are on duty seven days a week 8am to 10pm EST. Discounts are available on a variety of fares, and when you book early, 30 days or more in advance on domestic flights (incl. United States, Canada, Puerto Rico), and 60 days or more on international flights, you can receive an even higher discount. So please take advantage and book early.  

Do you have driving directions to TESC?

We suggest that you visit www.mapquest.com or Yahoo! Maps (www.yahoo.com).  You can input your start and end points to receive driving directions door to door.  TESC's address is:  2700 Evergreen Parkway NW, Olympia WA, 98505.

What kind of ground transportation is available to transfer us to the TESC?  

We have arranged for discount ground transportation with Capital Aeroporter. Please contact them to make a reservation.

What do I do when I arrive?

The first thing you will do is register with TESC accommodations and receive your room assignment and some general information about TESC.  Either immediately thereafter, or later in the day at your convenience, please check in at the Yoga For Living Productions (YFLP) registration table to receive your ID badge and other information pertaining to the retreat.  It'll be painless, we promise.

Are the accommodations singles or doubles?

Most of our onsite accommodations are single occupancy rooms in either a 4 or 6 room apartment with a shared bathroom and common living space.  A limited number of double occupancy rooms are available at a first come, first serve basis. 

What should I bring?

Bring all of our own yoga props and supplies, such as mats, blankets, straps, blocks, meditation cushions, etc.  Standard bedding and towels will be provided the TESC.  There are several large grocery stores in the immediate area and the YFLP boutique will carry some basic personal care items.  Summer evenings and early mornings can get a little chilly in the Pacific Northwest, so please bring a sweatshirt, sweater or a light jacket along with some warming yoga wear.  Summers tend to be on the dry side, but an umbrella might come in handy.

Why would I consider staying off campus at The Red Lion Hotel?

Only a short drive from TESC, The Red Lion Hotel is an excellent choice for families with children, traveling companions, or couples .  Public transportation will take you right to the TESC campus, or it is only about 10 minutes by car.  The rooms are spacious, offering  2 queen- or 1 king-sized bed, a private bathroom, cable television, room service, telephone and internet access and more.

How do we arrange for Vegan/ or Vegetarian meals?

It is not necessary to arrange for vegan or vegetarian meals;  there will be vegetarian and vegan options at every meal, including an 18-foot fresh salad bar.  The focus of the catering will be vegetarian gourmet, and many of the ingredients used will be locally grown organic produce.

Is there a pay-as-you-go food facility on campus as well?

Yes.  There is an excellent cafe, espresso, smoothie bar offering sandwiches, pizza, bagels, snacks, sweets, beverages and other yummy foods.  This is open only for limited hours.  In addition, the main TESC dining facility is available to pay-as-you-go guests, but we strongly suggest that you purchase a commuter meal package for only $108 for the week.  You can do this on our registration page.

Can I stay an extra night on campus on Saturday the 19th or Saturday, July 26th?

Unfortunately, TESC can not accommodate YFLP guests for additional nights.  However there are several very affordable hotels located only minutes away from SEATAC.  Click HERE to link to to a list of hotels near the airport.  The page will open in a new window that you can close to return to our site.

What time do the events  end on the last day?

6pm.

How can I arrange to be in the same suite as my friend(s)?

THE EVERGREEN STATE COLLEGE FACILITY

What is the campus like?

TESC is a medium-sized campus with modern architecture and a very warm vibe.  The campus is surrounded by a 1000-acre forest with hiking trails and beautiful views.  Nature abounds on and around the campus property, including giant maples, evergreens and a nearby kayaking lake. Are there cooking facilities?

There are no cooking facilities during summer sessions at TESC.

Are refrigerators available in the rooms?

Refrigerators are available in the apartment-style rooms, and in a limited number of the double-occupancy, dorm-style accommodations.

What is the parking policy?

Parking is available for a nominal daily fee paid directly to TESC.

Will we be sharing the campus with other program(s)?

There will be one other small program sharing the campus with us.  However, we are the "main event" for the week.

Will there be a meditation room available during non-program hours?

Yes.

When does the program begin and end?

How many participants in the a.m. Master Classes? 

The a.m. Master Classes will have anywhere from 75 to 125 participants.

How many participants in the intensives? 

Weeklong intensives will have plus or minus 75 participants.

Can I attend for part of the retreat? 

Because our program is intended to be an immersion in the teachings, we cannot accept part-time attendees.  However, we will be allowing drop-ins for the A.M. Master Classes, depending on availability of space.  Visitors may also attend the evening Satsangs featuring keynote lecutres and kirtan with Wah!.

What's the cancellation policy?

All requests for refunds must be made in writing, accompanied by a YFLP original receipt or a copy of your cancelled check. A 100% refund, minus a $50 processing fee, will be issued until April 15,2003; 75% until May 1; 50% until June 1. After said date sincere efforts will be made to refund tuition and housing fees based on wait-list participation.

Can I change my master class track after I arrive?

Yes.

Can I change weeklong intensives after I arrive?

You may change your weeklong intensive before beginning day 2.  After day 2, you may change only with the permission of the teacher with whom you would like to study.  

ADDITIONAL SERVICES (MASSAGE, ETC.)

Will there be vendors?

There will be a small number of vendors and a general merchandise boutique.

What additional services will be available?

WORK-STUDY, SCHOLARSHIPS, PAYMENT, FINANCIAL HARDSHIP

Do you have a work-study program?

Our work-study request list is closed for Six Days on Freedom '03. Please check out www.YogaForLiving.com for future events. 

Do you offer scholarships?

We are not offering scholarships at this time.

Can I pay in installments?

You may pay in installments using your Visa or MasterCard and will be surcharged financing and administrative fees for this privilege.  Please contact us at info@yogaforliving.com to request more information on this payment option.  

YOGA ALLIANCE CREDIT / CONTINUING EDUCATION & ACADEMIC CREDIT

How do I receive credit towards my RYT with The Yoga Alliance?

The Yoga Alliance has acknowledged that they will accept Six Days on Freedom attendance toward 200-hour RYT.  As our entire program has not been fully-reviewed by the Yoga Alliance, you must apply for Independent hours towards 200-hour level RYT.   This process is very simple:  You will receive a certificate of completion from YFLP which you will present to the Yoga Alliance with your application for your RYT.  Please visit www.yogaalliance.org for more information on RYT applications, fees, etc.

How many credits to I receive and how are they apportioned, i.e., to which YA categories?

You will receive 40 credits towards your RYT, distributed according to your discretion.

Can I receive continuing ed credits for this program?

Yes. TESC is offering 4 continuing education units to attendees.  Registration for CECs/CEUs will be onsite only.  Participants can register on July 20th from 3pm to 5pm and on July 21st from 7am to 8:30am.  Registration will take place in front of the Summer Guest Services Office in residence hall A.  The registration fee is $160.00.  

It is the responsibility of the attendees to submit the continuing education certificate to their appropriate professional organization in order to obtain the organization's approval of the CEUs.  If you have questions, please contact Amy Betz at 360-867-5870.

Can I receive academic credits for this program?

Yes. TESC is offering a 2 - 4 academic credit course, Yoga as Transformation, in conjunction with Six Days on Freedom.  TESC faculty member Sarah Williams and adjunct faculty member Tim Kelly will teach the course.  Yoga as Transformation will provide dedicated practitioners and yoga teachers with background readings, writing processes and practices of scholarly reflection regarding the 6 workshop/intensive themes offered. This class will take place during the retreat at non-conflicting times of other retreat workshops.  You will be contacted by faculty member Sarah Williams with a complete schedule once you are registered.  Tuition for this summer course at TESC is as follows:

Washington Resident Undergraduate Credit:  $113.30 per credit
Nonresident Undergraduate Credit:  $251.30 per credit

There is a $100 tuition discount for Six Days on Freedom attendees who are also registering for the TESC course Yoga as Transformation.
